Payment Daily News Digest (PDND)

PDND was designed to be a source of competitive advantage for payment industry professionals. Registered readers will be updated on relevant changes so that they can respond to opportunities and threats quickly and effectively. We propose to achieve this objective by focusing on a combination of emerging technologies: real-time-payments (RTPs), embedded payments, AI and machine learning, measures for data quality, risk/benefit scans of websites, access and retrieval of relevant data sources such as sanction lists, open banking, content delivery and interpreting reader feedback for increased relevant selection.

The payments industry is currently in the early stages of a technology refresh. Banks, retailers, and payment processors will spend billions of dollars over the next few years as technology and regulatory changes open new markets to replace paper payments with digital alternatives that are more convenient, safer, and cheaper than the options they will be replacing. This opportunity places a premium on remaining current on relevant advances.

We designed this digest on the assumption that you had at most five minutes to scan the important developments of the past 24 hours and decide to review or download a couple of articles instead of purchasing subscriptions to news sources and the time it takes to filter their content for important material. Thus, you gain knowledge of relevant content quicker while paying less.

An estimated one hundred million new web pages are published on the internet every day. We have invested in a range of automated filtering tools that monitor over 600 payment-related web sources for changes, performing article searches for mentions made of industry leaders, table of contents updates on over 100 publications, and keyword searches on over 10,000 news feeds. The sole purpose of these technologies is to monitor for relevant developments for the payments professional.

As a registered subscriber, you will receive an e-mail each morning containing a listing of 10 news headlines, a synopsis of each, and a hyperlink to the original news site.  If the article appears relevant, move your mouse over the link and click through.  The articles in each PDND issue are equally divided between two sections: the first containing new developments in the past 24 hours and the second made up of important developments within the past week in a topic of interest.  These five topics are also used to archive past news links on our topic-searchable library.

  • Monday - Major Players: What are the top card brands, banks, social media, marketplaces, smartphone, core processors, and retailers doing in their various markets relevant to their use of payment services to compete and gain market share?
  • Tuesday - Small and Medium Enterprises: What developments are occurring that are relevant to the sale of payment services to the other hundreds of millions of small to medium business owners around the world.
  • Wednesday: Risk / Legal / Regulations: Insurance, fraud, court case rulings, legislative initiatives and regulations all play a large role in defining the framework in which payment services are priced and legally marketed.
  • Thursday: eCommerce and Technology: How is the internet and today's technology changing the role of retail payments, new products, revenue streams, the advances in POS tap-to-pay, integrated payments, contactless, RTP, open banking, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
  • Friday: Cash / Checks to Digital: There has been a decline in using cash and checks as cards and digital alternatives. This topic will track and report on advances in CBDC, crypto, stablecoins, and other digital options.

The PDND is a productivity enhancement tool designed to the specific needs of payments industry professionals.  This resource is delivered so you don’t have to waste time reviewing material you are already aware of, not to mention the time it takes to load and scan over advertising used to support “free” news reporting. If your time is worth $30 an hour - the 30 seconds waiting for the page to load all that advertising and another two or three minutes reviewing material looking for something you can use is costing you a couple of dollars. We monitor for you, package and summarize the relevance of news developments, and let you decide to spend "pocket change" on information you can use to create value.

Our business model is not based on advertising revenues or major subscription commitments from our audience. Our focus is upon serving payment professionals that have limited time to spend keeping updated on breaking developments in their field.  Our content analysis technology is constantly being refined by the feedback we receive daily from your individual decisions to purchase or ignore news developments we serve up each morning.  After a trial period of spending $5 which we invest in our relationship, we both should know if this is a relationship worth extending into the future.
